Did you know you can clean your whole house with simple, natural ingredients that are safe for the environment and better for your kids and pets? In fact, using all-natural cleaners can leave your home sparkling clean and smelling amazing, without exposing your family to harsh chemicals. Making the switch from chemical-laden store-bought household cleaners to all-natural ones doesn’t have to be difficult. Here are five ideas for easily cleaning your home the natural way:

Things You’ll Need:

  • Baking soda
  • White vinegar
  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • Borax
  • Washing powder
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Corn starch
  • Bar soap (like Ivory or Dr. Bronner’s)
  • A few clean spray bottles
  • Your favorite essential oils

All-purpose Cleaner

You can make a versatile all-purpose cleaner by combining ½ cup of white vinegar with a couple of tablespoons of baking soda in a spray bottle. Add enough water to fill the bottle and shake. Both baking soda and white vinegar have excellent cleaning, grease-busting, and antibacterial properties, making this an especially great cleaner for the kitchen. To make the cleaner smell great and add even more of a cleaning boost, add several drops of your favorite essential oils (like lemon or lavender) to the mixture.

Laundry Detergent

Using this simple recipe, you can make your own super effective, earth-friendly laundry detergent from just three ingredients: bar soap, washing powder, and borax.

Tile Floor Cleaner

Tile floors are so easy to clean, that you can actually clean them quite effectively with a simple mixture of white vinegar and warm water. Simply mop and rinse- easy-peasy, and no harsh chemicals needed!

Glass Cleaner

To make a simple and cheap glass cleaner that will leave your mirrors and windows streak-free and super clean, simply mix ½ cup of white vinegar, ½ cup of rubbing alcohol, 2 tablespoons of cornstarch, and 4 cups of warm water in a spray bottle and shake vigorously. Just like with the all-purpose cleaner, you can add some essential oils to the finished product if you’d like.

Grout Cleaner

You can get even the dirtiest grout clean and white without harsh cleaners. Simply sprinkle baking soda onto the grout. Then, spray hydrogen peroxide that you have added to a spray bottle. Let the mixture sit and do its job for five to ten minutes. Next, scrub with an old toothbrush or cleaning brush. You can rinse and remove the mixture easily with a wet sponge or rag. The baking soda works to lift stains and scrub away dirt, while the hydrogen peroxide whitens.
