When looking for a road trip destination, there’s no reason to stray far from home if you’re lucky enough to live in beautiful Alberta. Most of these journeys can be tackled in a day or a weekend, making them perfect quick getaways. Just load up the car and check out one of these jaw-droppingly beautiful routes:

The Icefields Parkway

This 232 kilometre stretch of road linking Jasper and Lake Louise is not only one the most beautiful drives you can take in Canada: according to Conde Nast, and many others, it’s one of the most beautiful drives in the whole world. This epic drive takes you through majestic mountains, stunning ice lakes, and lush valleys. Make sure to set aside time for an over-glacier bus tour.

Crowsnest Pass

This scenic mountain pass takes you to the Alberta-British Columbia border. Along the way you will see beautiful foothills and interesting windfarms. You can stop to stretch your legs, grab lunch, and check out a few antique shops in the charming small towns of Turner Valley and Black Diamond.

Calgary to Medicine Hat

Medicine Hat is a great family destination, and the drive from Calgary through the Badlands is quite scenic and unique. In Medicine Hat, you can explore historic First Nations sites, check out dramatic cliffs and valleys, and get a taste of a different side of Alberta.

The Dinosaur Trail

The Dinosaur Trail is a lovely loop along the Red Deer River that allows you to see a very scenic area of the Badlands. Named for the rich array of dinosaur-era fossils (don’t skip the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Paleontology), this trail provides both outdoors adventures and learning opportunities for the entire family.
With so many beautiful destinations all in one province, it might be challenging to decide which road trip to embark on first.
